I've been writing the content for these newsletters for so long I'm starting to forget if I've already told a story. This is Insider Issue 88. Oh well.
This one goes out to my fellow overthinkers. The planners.
The people waiting for certainty before they move.
Same. I tell myself I'm being strategic. Thoughtful. Responsible.
In reality, I'm scared; waiting to feel ready.
A few years ago I tried a different approach.
We came up with this idea to host a virtual event unlike anything the podiatry industry had ever seen. We called it PodiatryExpo. Big vision. Bold concept. Zero knowledge of what the eff we were doing.
But we dragged our feet in the planning stage. Because, frankly, we didn’t have our act together yet.
No confirmed speakers.
No locked-in topics.
No sponsors.
Not even an idea of the “how” or the tech needed.
I told myself we’d move forward once things were more defined. Once it felt safer. Once the fog lifted.
And then it hit me: if we waited any longer, we’d miss the opportunity entirely.
So we did the scariest thing possible.
We picked a date (just a few short weeks from then!).
Put it on the calendar.
And started promoting the heck out of it as if we knew exactly what we were doing.
That single decision changed everything.
Taking action forced clarity. Once the date was real, we had no choice but to figure it out. Speakers came together. Topics emerged. Sponsors raised their hands. The tech stack sorted itself out through trial and error.
I didn’t find the path and then walk it.
I walked until the path appeared.
That experience rewired something for me.
Clarity is not a prerequisite for action.
It is a result of it.
You don’t sit still until the fog clears.
You move.
And the fog clears as you go.
Waiting for the perfect plan is just fear wearing a productivity costume. It looks good. It feels smart.

But it keeps you exactly where you are.
Momentum didn’t come from confidence.
Confidence came after momentum.
If you’re standing still right now, waiting for everything to make sense before you move… you don’t need the full plan. You just need the next step.
That’s where clarity lives.
