“What got you here won’t get you there.” We’ve all heard that before. It never really made me stop and think until recently a social media post kept me up all night.
The talent and energy that get a company (or project) from 0 to 1 are completely different than what will take it from 1 to 10.
When you first start, the mission is clear: Work hard and figure it out. Whatever it takes. Long days, late nights. Hustle. You are doing it all. Dreaming the ideas, solving the problems, putting out the fires, building the processes.
Soon, it’s 10 years later and the growth isn’t what you expected it to be. Your killer “hustle” instinct is keeping you small.
You don’t have time to delegate, right? It’ll take less time for you to just do it yourself, right?
Wrong. You are the bottleneck.
You are too busy figuring it out that you don’t have time to dream up new ideas.
Getting from 0 to 1 required grit.
Getting from 1 to 10 requires delegation, patience, humility, systems… And knowing you should not be the smartest or busiest person in the room.
But that shift is hard. No one else can do it as well as you can, right?
Now is when the real work begins. Now you’re building. Your hustle got you here. Now you need to evolve into the leader that can take you further.
